These amazing pieces of art are crafted by indigenous Wayuu women inhibiting the visually striking desert of the La Guajira Peninsula, which borders Northeastern Colombia and Northwest Venezuela.  Every bag is 100% authentic and "made with love in every thread".

  • Material: Acrylic fiber thread
  • Height: 10"-11"
  • Width (base diameter): 8"-9"
  • Strap Drop: 20"-21"

*Due to the handmade nature of this product, color and measurements may vary slightly.

Every bag sold allows us to help improve the living conditions of our Wayuu children and families in need of basic necessities, clean water, food, and power.

Wayuu women are responsible for household chores so they are only able to crochet in between their household responsibilities which means it can take 15-20 days to crochet a single bag.  Weavers also have different skill levels so some may take more or less time to finish a bag, depending on the design complexity and skill of the weaver. The beautiful patterns and colors represent their culture and environment.

CLEANING:  Turn inside out and machine wash in cold water on a delicate cycle.  Brush tassels while still damp.  Hang to dry.

about us

Straccio Rico works alongside over 8 families, 100+ Wayuu artisans, who reside in the La Guajira peninsula, a desert area in the northeast of Colombia. The Wayuu are known for their beautiful hand-woven "Wayuu mochila" bags.

I love all the bags I purchased, mostly gifts for family and of course myself! The daughter and young grandmother team are awesome with their services. Helped with selections as well.

I love Straccio Rico! I have two of their amazing Wayuu Mochila bags. Not only are they beautiful, well-made, and unique but I love that they benefit the craftswomen who make them. I totally embrace this local, women-owned, multi-generational entrepreneurial business, whose core mission is to help women in developing countries develop cottage businesses of their own.
